MY APPROACH

My education and practice has been focused around therapeutic approaches that are evidence based, practical and ultimately, the ones that I’ve found to be most successful with my clients. I’ve listed a few below, but as we work together, we’ll figure out which approach(es) fit best for you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT draws upon the theory that our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are all interconnected, meaning they all influence each other. If we can facilitate change in one area (such as thoughts) that will also help create change in other areas as well. CBT helps us to be aware of our negative thought patterns and teaches practical skills to manage them.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about being in the present moment without judgement.  It can be a great tool to help manage worry, negative thoughts, anxiety and depression. It allows us to be in the present, rather than spending all of our mental energy in the past or future.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

The World Health Organization (WHO) lists EMDR as one of the most effective treatments for trauma. This therapy uses bilateral stimulation (back and forth eye movements) to process painful memories and experiences. It facilitates our brain engaging in the natural healing process which would otherwise remain stuck due to trauma. This process is meant to decrease disturbance and emotion towards painful past experiences and give you freedom to move forward.
